Kickstart 2022..before it's even started

In a months time, people everywhere will be nursing a hangover and making their New Years Resolutions.

"This is my year!"

"2022 is the one!"

"I will actually do it this year!"

This is the year we are going to make progress and feel epic.

So Step 1: Choose your resolution.

To get those juices flowing, here are the top 10 most popular ones people make:

  1. Exercise more

  2. Lose weight

  3. Get organised

  4. Learn a new skill or hobby

  5. Live life to the fullest

  6. Save more money / spend less money

  7. Quit smoking

  8. Spend more time with family and friends

  9. Travel more

  10. Read more

So Step 2: Do it! You've selected your resolutions and statistics say that after a week of making them 75% of people are keeping up with them. Looking good.

But after a month, only 64% of people are still going and at the half way point of the year only 46% of people consider they are "successful" at achieving them.

Step3: STOP!!!!

Less than half of resolutions are considered successful!?

What's going wrong?! They are good goals, all achievable and manageable. But why are they not sustainable? Do we really mean them?

Looking back at the top 10...

They're vague.

"Lose weight"

Ok, so, how much weight do you want to lose? Why do you want to? Do you want to see the numbers on the scales go down or see inches fall off or do you want to feel stronger and leaner?

"Exercise more"

How much more and what kind? When are you going to do it? Where are you going to do it?

And who is holding you accountable to achieving these? Yourself?

Let's not pretend that we can be SUPPPPPER easy on ourselves.

"I'm tired today, I'll do it tomorrow."

We make excuses not to do it. No one knows what we had planned so we can sweep it under the rug and just pretend we never made a resolution.

Those lovely ambitions and dreams are slowly ebbing away. And that's how New Years Resolutions get tossed to the side line along with millions of other peoples'.

Now, I'm not writing this to be a Debby Downer, I'm actually writing this feeling like a Positive Polly. We've just figured out the secret.

Saying "This year I'm going to get fit" or "This year I'm going to eat better" isn't enough.
